My Favorite Day

My favorite day so far this year happened a few months ago. It was a Saturday and rainy and depressing and I don't think I was feeling good physically.....ha ha, I am sure that doesn't sound like a favorite day so far.....but I guess the day started out crummy but ended up well. After being in the house all day and starting to feel a wave of cabin fever, I announced that we needed to get out for some ice cream. We all looked really scruffy, they boys had messy hair, Keros was in his work clothes, I was in my "bum" clothes, my favorite blue flannel that I have had since High school and some jeans. I wasn't wearing any makeup either I believe....maybe some mascara.
Anyway we all jumped in the car and went to Dairy queen. We really didn't have lunch so we announced this as our lunch! Then on the way home we randomly decided to stop by the movie theatre, to our surprise Alivin and the Chipmunks was just about to start so we decided to just do it and go to the movies. I think I slightly remember trying to think if it was a wise spending decision, but then quickly tossed it aside enjoying the moment of spontaneity and we all got out of the car, looking like bums and bought our movie tickets and enjoyed out movie. The boys laughed and laughed during the movie. Isaac had the loudest laugh out of anyone in the theatre, I loved hearing it! Later we came home and had a simple dinner and just bumbed around and laughed and played with each other........I loved the feeling of not having anything else planned.

Today I woke up with feelings of sadness and missing my daughter Hope. I know she is in Heaven, exactly where she needs to be but there are so many things that still tug at my heartstrings and I wish I could have one more day with her.
So today I declare another random day! The boys are in thier beds still sleeping and Keros is off to a service project at work. I have no obligations today concerning my primary calling or anyone outside of my family......so I guess it makes it easier to declare a random day! Kind of a blessing in a way too.....
So when the boys wake up I will tell them they have the entire day to choose what they want to do.
The rules are .....
Not to spend any money.....well maybe 10.00 if we need some ice cream
That we take turns in deciding what to do
We need to eat 3 meals today
Wash your hands when you are done with the bathroom.....
Bed time is between 7-8:00 p.m.

How do those rules sound....good enough!

I am sure I sound insane maybe it is a little selfish too....to me it is bitter sweet ......I guess

Maybe my day will just be chaos.... ha ha!
I am going to spend the day enjoying my children and hopefully they enjoy me as well.

Amber, it's true that you are filled with sugar and spice and everything nice! I'm so proud of your courage and faith! You are a great and fantastic mom! I enjoyed reading about your great day! We all need a little light when the rain comes down and nothing does that better then Alvin!

That was such a fun idea. I am going to do that. It's okay to be a little sad sometimes as long as we keep going and enjoy all the good around us and you do that for yourself and your boys. You are my hero!

I hope your day was WONDERFUL! I love random days when you don't have to fill them with yard work and craziness. Gordon and I often write "Enjoy the Kids" on our Saturday Honey-do lists, so that we remember that's what's really important. It helps. hope it was fun!

Just before Mother's Day Kevin and Andrew were asking if there was a kid's day or brother's day (yes...everyday, is what I thought), this sounds like a great idea. I think I am going to declare a "my favorite day" really soon. Our children grow up so fast (and sometimes they return to Heavenly Father before we are ready), we need to enjoy them while we have them. Thanks for your strength and perspective Amber!
